Resources for:
Academic Focus
Fremont Elementary is committed to providing an optimal learning environment for all of our students. As a result, Fremont students have demonstrated high achievement in all academic areas.
Although our students have made great strides in the area of writing, 23% of our students are still not proficient according to the Glendale Unified School District’s Writing Benchmark.
Therefore, WRITING continues to be the main focus of our academic program.
At Fremont, our goal is to have 100% of our students write at the
proficient level or above as demonstrated by their performance on the “Write From
the Beginning” rubric.
Currently, to achieve this goal, all Fremont teachers incorporate the following into their daily schedule:
- “Write From The Beginning” (writing program)
- “Thinking Maps” (graphic organizing tools)
- “Mountain Language” (continuous grammar and skill review program)
Last
year, one of the most successful tools we initiated to help our student's reach
100% proficiency was the Writing
Proficiency Pie Chart.
Our next steps will be to:
- include reading strategy and instructional practices to increase writing proficiency.
- provide differentiated instruction to increase rigor levels for all students.
- utilize instructional strategies to increase student engagement
- create opportunities to increase parent participation.
